XISS holds MDP for Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society

A three-day Management Development Program (MDP) on “Effective Leadership and Team Management” was organized by the Rural Management Program of Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi for level managers District of Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) from 11-13 April 2022 here coordinated by Dr. Raj Shree Verma. No less than 29 participants attended from various districts of Jharkhand.

During the inaugural session, Dr. Joseph Marianus Kujur, Director of XISS, emphasized the importance of transforming negative energies within any organization into positive energies in his welcome speech and said that the location of a workshop also important is named after a visionary and a great leader who took failure on himself but shared the successes with his colleagues. He added that inspired and charismatic leadership is the quality of a leader.

On the first day, Dr. Himadri Sinha, Program Manager, Rural Management (RM) started the session by instilling the ideas and thoughts on the basics of leadership in the minds of the target groups, he also emphasized the importance of to have quality leadership within a person and to give him a boost to become an effective leader. Dr. Niranjan Sahoo, CDM Coordinator of RM, XISS presented the different leadership challenges and leadership imperatives that are required in an organization, which participants reciprocated by giving various answers to his questions. Professor Shilpee A Dasgupta from IIM-Ranchi discussed in a session the importance of listening skills to effectively manage a team in an organization and also gave an icebreaker activity to the trainees to explain the importance of listening. Dr. Ashok Ohol SJ, Assistant Professor, XISS emphasized a participatory approach to training while stating that “everyone is collectively responsible for change in an organization”.

Day 2 began with the session by Dr. Amar E. Tigga, Dean of Studies, the session covered the concept of change management, for which he said it can be both positive and negative and how planning is important for the effective implementation of changes. Dr. KM Spring, Associate Professor, XISS pointed out the human potentials that are hidden in the minds of people, these should be explored while making decisions in the organization. Prof. Pranab Kumar, BIT Mesra, Ranchi spoke about conflict management and ways to build interpersonal relationships in JSLPS. Dr. KK Bhagat, Professor, XISS motivated the target audience and inculcated the ideas on professional integrity which are requirements in organizational management.

The third day began with the words of Professor Mary Bodra, Associate Professor, XISS discussed organizational transformation and she argued that leaders only have the ideas and thoughts to bring about organizational transformation. Dr. Anant Kumar, Associate Professor, XISS addressed in a session on applications of emotional intelligence in leadership in the context of development sectors. Dr. Raj Shree Verma, Assistant Professor, XISS discussed the application of various communication skills and other soft and technical skill sets needed in an organization for its proper functioning. Dr. Nishant Goyel, Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Kanke enlightened participants on Emotional Quotient and Intelligence Quotient which are very relevant areas at the leadership level.

The 3-day training program concluded with high hopes and aspirations of the target group. Dr. Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Director, XISS; Dr. Pradeep Kerketta SJ, Deputy Director, XISS; Dr. Amar E. Tigga, Dean of Studies; Dr. Himadri Sinha and Mr. Bishnu Ch. Parida, Chief Operating Officer of JSLPS, inspired the participants with their generous presence during the farewell session.
